CofC Office of Admissions: Seeking Events Intern (Fall 2021)

Compensation:  $11.00 per hour

Position Description:  The purpose of the student Admissions Event intern position is to provide support and assistance to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions Events in meeting recruitment and yield visit goals. The student intern will support and follow the core values of the College of Charleston. The intern will have a general knowledge of the admissions process, understand the visit programs and event offerings hosted by the Office of Admissions, and demonstrate strong customer service. The Admissions Event intern plays a critical role in the pre-planning, day-of coordination, and post-event logistics for both small and large-scale, on-and-off campus, and virtual events.

Job Responsibilities May Include:

  • Attending all on-campus events for the duration of the event, as class schedule allows. Some local travel for off-campus events may be required.
  • Assisting in the creation and execution of event agendas
  • Scheduling event special topic sessions and manage communication with cross campus partner presenters
  • Welcoming and Checking-in visitors during event registration
  • Organizing day-of marketing and promotional materials for events (including balloons, A-frame signs, hanging banners, etc.)
  • Attending catering, marketing, and all other event-specific meetings with the Senior Associate Director of Admissions Events
  • Recruiting and finding student volunteers as needed for larger scale events
  • Event set-up and break down
  • Engaging in timely correspondence within the Admissions Events email inbox as well as return event-related voicemails
  • Compiling post event guest evaluation responses and analyze the statistical data to determine the effectiveness of the information provided during recruitment & yield events
  • Monitoring special topic sessions and residence hall availability on event days
  • Collaborating with in-office partners on team-specific events
  • Taking pictures during events for marketing purposes
  • Coordinating technology needs and rehearsals with event presenters and IT staff
  • Work in partnership with the Sr. Associate Director of Events & University Marketing to select promotional videos, and virtual event media content.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organization, multi-tasking and time management skills with the ability to work effectively both autonomously as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience/interest in event planning, public relations, marketing/communications, or admissions/higher education.
  • High comfort level with technology and public speaking. Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated, tactful, and courteous/professional when working with guests of the College and the CofC community.
  • Must be enrolled in a College of Charleston undergraduate program.
