Tre Giorni: Workin’ in the Rain

Ciao!

Day three of our Genoa adventure was met with the rain we have been expecting for the past several days.  Luckily, today was a workday, which meant the rain did not hinder us one bit! After yesterday’s meeting outlining our project, today was all about final logistics and starting our work.  We made a list of elevations for documentation, split into teams of two for the piazza study, and then off to work we went!

After several hours of productivity, the dinner bell beckoned us to the dining room for a wonderful lunch, prepared by the lovely Lucia.  The “food cart” was full of fragrant pasta, roast beef, seasoned potatoes, and salad with chocolate amaretto cake for dessert.  Delicioso! Apparently, everyone was hungry because silence ensued for about fifteen minutes.  Well done, Lucia!

Lunch signaled the end of our workday, and Frances set us loose to explore the city.  Frances led a large group of students to the Carmelite Monastery of Santa Anna.  The well-preserved 16th century church is beautiful and extravagant, which allowed for great photos.  Also, the monastery is well known for its “farmacia” where some of us bought a variety of homemade soaps and lotions.  Kelly and I did not go with the others to the monastery, so we will head to Santa Anna another day.  Instead we went in search of our piazza, the Piazza de San Luca.  Our journey took us to the core of Genova, where we left the main road a little too soon and ended up in the red-light district! A helpful older gentleman took pity on us, escorting us to the Church of San Pietro in Banchi (St. Peter’s in the Stalls) and giving us clear directions to San Luca.

Our day concluded with a light dinner by team Kavan, Kelly, and Megan.  Now it is time for some vino and relaxation! Buona Notte!
