Student IT Checklist

IT created a checklist for new and returning students to better prepare you for the start of the fall semester.

Connect to WiFi:

The college’s primary wireless network is named cofc-secure.  You can connect to it by using our wireless setup tool.  If that doesn’t allow you to connect, visit Student Computing Support in the Addlestone Library.

MyResnet broadcasts in the residence halls and is supported by Apogee.  If you have difficulty connecting to that network, you can reach their support line at 855.290.7138. For more information about ResNet, visit https://blogs.cofc.edu/it/2014/08/12/resnet-internet-service/.

Register with Public Safety

To deter theft and help locate your laptop in the event that it is lost or stolen, register your electronics with Public Safety.

Install Antivirus Software

Whether it’s the College-provided Symantec Endpoint Protection or an alternative, all students running Windows should use some form of antivirus software. Visit http://blogs.cofc.edu/scs/security/antivirus/ for more information.

Buy Office

If you haven’t done so already, IT strongly recommends that all students purchase a copy of Microsoft Office. Discounted pricing is available at the Microsoft Student Store.

Follow IT on Social Media

IT posts important information and updates via Twitter at @ITCofC and Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ITCofC.

We hope this information will help you get off to a great start in the new semester.
