Important Announcement – CWWPA Decommissioning 12/19/13

IT Network Engineering will decommission the CWWPA wireless network starting at 10AM on Thursday, December 19, 2013. After December 19, 2013, CWWPA will no longer be available. If you are using CWWPA to access the wireless network on any device, you will need to reconfigure your settings to connect to the cofc-secure wireless network. IT encourages you to reconfigure your settings on your device(s) now so that you will not experience any issues. If you are using a Windows or Apple laptop, you can visit http://wireless.cofc.edu to automatically reconfigure your device for cofc-secure. If you need additional assistance, please contact the Information Technology Helpdesk at (843) 953-3375 or by emailing helpdesk@cofc.edu.

The CWWPA network uses a weak encryption technology called WPA, Wi-Fi Protected Access. WPA was an intermediate step in wireless encryption technology while the formal encryption standard, IEEE 802.11i, was being approved. Information Technology deployed cofc-secure once wider adoption of the formal encryption standard was evident. The cofc-secure wireless network utilizes 802.11i , more commonly known as WPA2.
