The REAL Last Day

6/12/14- As promised, I needed another day to take interior photographs of Molana Abbey. This was my last chance! Throughout the week we were reminded that the wedding party would be arriving on Friday (a.k.a. don’t come on site after Friday). So with a recharged battery we returned to Molana for the real last day of fieldwork. The last photo day went off without a hitch and Carter, Donna and I all said goodbye to our much beloved site.

While on site, we started to realize that the weather for the day was not only sunny, but extremely warm for Ireland! Good thing we planned to travel to the port town of Kinsale! Kinsale was a busy tourist town with the shopping opportunities that Donna and I were craving. So after we had a delicious lunch on the water, we decided to take a quick drive out to Charles Fort for amazing views of the harbor. While Donna and I enjoyed our guided walking tour, Carter and Eric needed to stay just beyond earshot as to not hear the falsities the tour guide was spouting off. Nonetheless it was a worthwhile excursion which allowed us to sneak back into town to finish up our shopping.

On the way back to Kinsale we hoped to visit a restored castle not far outside of Dungarvan, but due to damage done in a storm in February (the big storm is how it was referred to throughout our trip) the castle was closed for renovations. We returned back to Youghal with heavy hearts until we happened upon the Youghal Bagpipe band!
