Charleston School of Business Faculty & Staff Updates

Microsoft Online Webinar for Students (and faculty & staff)

This week, I re-connected with Victoria Thompson (Class of 2015, Elementary Education). Victoria was a member of the Teacher Leaders program in the School of Education at a time when I was director of Schottland Scholars, and I was able to get to know her a bit then.

She now works for Microsoft, and offered to help us build an 8-hour certification for our students. Here’s how it works:

  • Students complete online training modules at their own pace.
  • For each topic, students can choose to opt-in to live webinars.
  • After completing all of the modules, students complete an online quiz.
  • They receive a “badge” to include in email signatures, on LinkedIn, and on their resumes.

It’s that simple… and it is free. The modules are already available for free to anyone online, but typically participants pay about $120 for the certification. The entire program will be free to our students, and will be customized to be more accessible to them. What I especially like is that students can choose to engage in modules via webinar with Victoria, a CofC grad.

I’d love to get get your feedback on which modules would be most valuable for our population of students. We want to make sure we prioritize those in building a certification especially for our College of Charleston Business students.

PS: Faculty & Staff can participate for free, too!
