Ernest F. Hollings NOAA Scholarship is Now Open for Applications!

Awards include academic assistance up to $9,500 per year

The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid ($700/week) internship at a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) facility during the summer.

Current sophomores majoring in and conducting research in oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, including geography, physics, hydrology, and geomatics, are invited to apply.

The internship provides scholars with hands-on, practical experience in NOAA related science, research, technology, policy, management, and educational activities. Awards also include travel funds to attend a mandatory NOAA Scholarship Program orientation and the annual Science & Education Symposium, scientific conferences where students present their research, and a housing subsidy for scholars who do not reside at home during the summer internship.

Mr. James E. Campbell Race and Social Justice Initiative Student Leadership Awards

It’s Officially Student Leadership Award Season!

The Student leadership award is a $1000 travel and research stipend granted to up to 10 undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for social justice and activism! This research stipend is eligible for students who attend The College of Charleston or a Historically Black College and University in the State of South Carolina. Students will be required to submit an application and a proposal detailing their individual project ideas to the RSJI team.

Learn More About Mr. Campbell

Mr. James E. Campbell (1925-2021), an African American educator and civil rights activist, worked as a teacher in Baltimore, Maryland, New York, New York, and Tanzania. He later became an administrator with the New York City public school system. Campbell also served as contributing editor for the journal Freedomways. Relocating after retirement, he became a community activist in Charleston, South Carolina and continued his involvement with educational initiatives. Throughout his life, Campbell has worked with organizations focused on socialism, Pan-Africanism, freedom struggles, and equity in education.

CIE Scholarships Available for Spring Study Abroad

Deadline to apply is October 5

CIE has increased the maximum potential award amount for its general scholarship to $2,500 f0r a semester program and up to $2,000 for a summer program.

Criteria for the CIA General Scholarship include academic merit, demonstration of financial need, a persona; statement. and a recommendation by two faculty members.

Students should apply for the scholarships through CSAS (cofc.academicworks.com).  The deadline for for Spring 2022 CIE Scholarships is October 5, 2021.

The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and guaranteed civilian employment with the Department of Defense (DoD) upon degree completion.

Scholars receive full tuition, monthly stipends, health insurance and book allowances, as well as summer internships that range from 8 to 12 weeks—and a job after graduation!
