How the Program Works

• Students admitted to the program will receive substantive funding to help finance their summer experiences.
• Students in the program will join with a cohort of their peers to participate together in pre- and post-summer developmental workshops. Pre-summer workshops will take place in-person, in Charleston, on May 10-11, 2022, and will be designed to enhance your forthcoming summer experience and help you maximize the impact it has on your future trajectory.
• Students will check in virtually with their cohort throughout the summer to share updates on their experiences.
• Students will bookend their summer with a series of collaborative, post-summer reflection activities on August 27, 2022.
• Participation in pre- and post-summer activities is required for students to receive funding.

What Type of Experiences are Eligible?

• The program is designed to support summer experiences that…
  • Align with your short- and/or long-term goals
  • Are critical to your intellectual growth and professional or personal development
  • Are challenging and intellectually stimulating
  • Will lay the foundation for post-graduate success
• Examples include study abroad programs, research, internships, experiential learning, community impact projects, and leadership development programs.
• Funding can be used to cover personal expenses related to your summer experience.

What’s Eligible:	Housing, travel to study abroad or internship sites, food, and other living expenses
What’s Not Eligible:	Tuition for course work, research materials, stipends for work performed

Who Can Apply?

• All Honors students currently in good standing.
• Priority will be given to those students pursuing their first substantive summer experience, and to those for whom a summer experience would not otherwise be possible without significant financial support. We want to provide access to experiences that may not be paid (or paid well) so that you can develop the skills necessary to be more competitive for future opportunities.
• Students must commit to participate in all cohort programming, including pre-summer workshops and post-summer reflection activities.

How Much Funding is Available?

• The exact amount of funding will depend on how many qualified applicants are accepted into the program, but students can apply for up to $4000 in eligible costs.
• Whenever possible, funding will be comprehensive, or will subsidize whatever balance remains after other funding sources have been utilized. The goal is to provide students with life-altering experiences they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.
• Students should still pursue other financial support through grants and awards.

How Do I Apply?

• To be considered for the program, students will need to…
  1. Complete and submit this application form
  2. Upload an updated resume to your OAKS Resume folder (located in your Honors Advising OAKS shell under Grades–>Assignments–>Resume)
  3. Complete and upload this budget proposal to the OAKS Summer Enrichment Award Application folder (also under Grades–>Assignments)
