Present Your Work at the 2022 SSM Celebration of Student Research

The 2022 Celebration of Summer Research is a poster session hosted by the College’s School of Science and Math (SSM) on Convocation Day – Monday, August 22 – from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the SSMB building.

Target Audience: Students conducting mentored summer research in an SSM field, including those working with CofC faculty, MUSC faculty, the Department of Natural Resources, NOAA, and other associated facilities.

  • Learn More: Details on eligibility, abstract submissions, and creating and printing a poster are available online.

How to Apply: Submit an abstract to Professor Jason Vance (vancejt@cofc.edu). Submissions open on Monday August, 8 and close on Monday, August 15, 11:59 p.m.

Free workshop on the applications of Artificial Intelligence

The data science program is hosting a free workshop on the applications of Artificial Intelligence. Students can network with industry experts and learn about how AI is impacting our modern world from digital media to education to autonomous vehicles.

  • Workshops will be taught by high-profile industry insiders from Facebook AI and Google’s self-driving car division Waymo.

The workshop takes place over the course of three-and-a-half days, from  Tuesday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 5, at the College’s Harbor Walk location (360 Concord St.). They are free to attend, and food and refreshments will be provided.

Who should attend: Any student interested in learning about Artificial Intelligence (a computer programming background is not required).

Techstars Startup Day: A 24-hour conference for entrepreneurs

Techstars Startup Day is a free annual conference where new company founders and entrepreneurial community-builders can learn, grow, and connect.

  • This year’s virtual event starts on Tuesday, June 28 at 9:00 a.m. EST and runs for 24-hours.

What to expect: 24-hours of inspiring ideas, lessons learned, and actionable best practices from our global Startup Weekend experts exclusively curated for future founders and community leaders.

Who should attend: Entrepreneurs, community builders, even those who are just interested in learning more about entrepreneurship. Participants can attend as few or as many of the sessions as they’d like.

Women for Women Summit celebrates and connects women from across South Carolina

The second annual Women for Women Summit presented by the College of Charleston School of Business will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Francis Marion Hotel.

Summit theme: “Grit,” which is meant to celebrate, elevate, share and connect exceptional women from across the Palmetto State.

Lineup of speakers: Includes women leaders in business, technology and government.

  • Guests will participate in panel discussions, professional workshops, and networking opportunities designed to foster personal and professional growth.

Target audience: All women and supporters – no matter their level of experience or profession – who want to network with like-minded women, learn new skills and be inspired.

Sustainability Week 2022

Sustainability Week 2022 is right around the corner! The Center for Sustainable Development is putting on the 2022 Sustainability Week: Sustainable Cities & Communities. Check out some of the awesome programming for the week ahead!

Monday, April 18th: Tabling & Bingo (10:00am – 1:00pm at the Sottile Clock) and Sustainable Cities Vision Walk (Stop at 1:00pm & Open all week in Maybank Hall)

Tuesday, April 19th: Tabling & Bingo (12:30pm – 3:30pm at the Sottile Clock) and Charleston Social Justice Sites Tour (4:00pm, 4:30pm, and 5:00pm at 207 Calhoun St.)

Wednesday, April 20th: Sustainable Cities Expo – Farmers Market & Free Store Pop-up (10:30am – 2:30pm), Carta Ride-A-Long (12:00pm and 1:00pm), and Sustainability Field Day (10:30am – 6:30pm)

Thursday, April 21st: An Earth Day Dialogue: Sustainability and Flourishing in the 21st Century (6:00pm – 7:00pm in the School of Science and Math Auditorium (Zoom Available))

Friday, April 22nd: CofC Instagram Takeover (@collegeofcharleston), MESSA Adopt a Highway (10:00am – 11:30am at Ye Old Fashion Ice Cream West Ashely Parking Lot), and Dining’s Farm to Table Dinner (5:30pm in Stern Garden)

3rd Annual Women of Color Entrepreneurship Panel

The face of entrepreneurship is changing! Women are starting businesses at more than double the rate of men and women of color, especially African American women, are leading that change.

Join the School of Business Center for Entrepreneurship and students in Professor Dave Hansen’s Minority Entrepreneurship class as they discuss: How do we improve coordination and information sharing among individuals and organizations working to support women of color entrepreneurs? They will also touch on capital and funding, biases in the business world, COVID struggles for business owners, and how the education system can be a better support for future entrepreneurs.

A free learning offering available to students and lecturers at SAP University Alliances member institutions. The edition offers access to:

  • 18 different SAP Learning Journeys for key SAP solutions, such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Analytics Cloud
  • All related learning content required to study for selected certifications
  • All related SAP Learning Rooms to study and collaborate with fellow peers and SAP experts
