Choosing Trujillo by Kat Adams

My name is Katarina (Kat) Adams, and I am a Communication, and Arts Management double major. I am a junior at The College and I am studying abroad this fall in Trujillo, Spain. I chose this specific program not only to be in a less touristy city, but because I learned that I have ancestors from the city as well. My grandparents are from Trujillo, Peru, which I learned was named after Trujillo, Spain after Pizzaro fled from the War. I found that very interesting, and wanted to know more about the city, and its history. My main goal for myself is to become more fluent in Spanish. Over the last few weeks I feel a lot more comfortable with the language from the time I first got here, but I am hoping that by the time I come home I will be able to talk to my Peruvian family fully in Spanish. Before coming here, I knew that Trujillo is a very small town where everyone knows everyone and very little English is spoken. They have an old Cathedral called La Coria, which has been turned into a museum where we get to take our classes.
