On November 14, five writing lab consultants and Dr. Bonnie Devet, Director of the Writing Lab at the College of Charleston traveled across town to make presentations to the Citadel Writing Center’s Director, Dr. Pat Hendrix, and a few tutors that work in the Citadel Writing Center.

The College of Charleston writing lab consultants presented about what types of students come to the lab.  These include: students who have nothing written, students who have writer’s block, students who have special emotional problems, and students who are not open to help.  Discussions after the presentations revealed that the Citadel’s Writing Center tutors assists students that face similar challenges.  The Centers also discussed their differences such as staffing and how appointments are made.

In addition to the experience and leadership skills development opportunity these presentations afforded,  this work also counts toward the peer consultants’ advanced certification.

The College of Charleston Writing Lab, staffed by a faculty member and peer consultants, provides students one-to-one assistance for every stage in the writing process for term papers, essays, letters, memos, or book reviews.
