Challenge 5- Inspire

Challenge 5-Inspire

Sometimes we are asked to do things that we do not enjoy (or we think we will not enjoy), so we don’t try hard.  At other times, we don’t like the person who is asking us to do it, so we don’t listen carefully to what they are asking.  Your challenge is to create a presentation–video, speech, artistic piece, etc—to motivate others to pay attention and work hard, even if they do not like the person or the task in front of them.

Let’s Celebrate!

Thank you so much for sticking with this program! It’s hard to believe that next week will be our last week. You and your parent/guardian are invited to our end-of-program celebration at the College of Charleston.  Read below for more information.

Date: Friday July 25, 2014
Time: 11:00am – 2:30pm
Location: School of Education, Health, and Human Performance (86 Wentworth Street)
Parking: Garage on the corner of St. Phillips Street and Wentworth Street.  We will provide you with a parking pass so you will not have to pay to park.  You will need present the parking pass and your garage ticket to the attendant when you exit the garage.
Attire: Dress comfortably and wear walking shoes
Activities: Program evaluation, campus tour, lunch in dining hall, program wrap-up with fun awards

Please RSVP by Monday July 21.
We also need the name of the parent/guardian who will accompany you.
Finally, please let us know your t-shirt size.

Challenge 4!

Challenge 4 is very open for you to do whatever you want. Use your strengths and interests to complete the challenge.  If you need guidance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Be sure to use the Resources on the blog to help you create your video! If you upload your video to YouTube, please just send us the link so we can watch it!

Everybody is good at something.  Your challenge is to choose one of the things you are good at and teach somebody else how to do it.   You will create an instructional video that describes each step and shows the final product.

 Good Luck!!!

Challenge 3!

Hi Project SLIDERS!

You were sent an email with your personalized Challenge 3! Based on the instructions in the email your challenge is to plan a trip for you, a friend, and a chaperone.

Create a flyer to convince your parent/guardian to let you take this trip. Be sure the flyer is neat, attractive, and answers all of the questions in the the email!

Use the tutorial on the resources page to help you create a flyer.

Challenge 2!

Congratulations! For Challenge 2, imagine that you have won a contest and the prize is  enough money to buy a year’s supply of your favorite item. What’s the catch? Well, there are two catches.  (1) You must spend all of the money in one week and  (2) you can only spend the money through online shopping.

To plan your purchases, it will be helpful to take a month-by-month look to identify special events, birthdays, holidays, and other times when you are likely to need or want a new item.  Once you have an idea of what you need, visit two or three shopping websites to see who has the best deals!  Based on your interests, we suggest you visit specific websites that we will suggest.   Place the items you select into your online shopping cart to see your total cost.  Don’t forget to consider sales tax and shipping fees but DO NOT CREATE AN ONLINE ACCOUNT WITH THE STORE to find out what these fees will be.  If the store website requires you to log-in or create an account, then use the following formulas to calculate your sales tax and shipping: Cost of items x 15% = Extra Fees.  Extra Fees + Cost of items = Total Cost.

Compile all of your purchasing information into a or Prezi presentation. Submit your Prezi by Monday July 7. Did you want to give them another option? We could list Google App (docs) or powerpoint? I did not do a tutorial for Google Docs, but they may know how to use it.

Feel free to use the tutorial on our Resources page

 Spend wisely and happy shopping!

Everyone was sent a personalized email to accompany this challenge. Please be sure to get in touch with us if you did not receive an email.
