Position DescriptionThis position coordinates the media relations, public relations, marketing and promotions, website maintenance, photography and statistical data related to the athletics department.  The position also coordinates the staffing and operations of all home intercollegiate athletic events.  This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics.

Communication Responsibilities

  • Compile statistics for all home athletic events and submit to local media, conference office, and NAIA.
  • Write and publish post-game press releases for all home athletics events.
  • Communicate regularly with local television, newspaper, radio and other media outlets.
  • Manage all aspects of athletics website content including scores, photos and post-game stories.
  • Oversee all department social medial platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, other.
  • Submit all required NSAA and NAIA statistical data, photos, weekly nominations, and stories for website.
  • Coordinate all athletics department photography including head shots, action photos, and team photos.
  • Promote and strengthen the brand of Viterbo athletics through messaging, marketing and promotions.
  • Produce all print and electronic publications including game day sheets and special event programs.
  • Hire, train, and supervise work-study students, interns or other staff to assist with duties.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Event Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating set up, take down and supervision of all intercollegiate events.
  • Hire, assign and train student workers and staff to fulfill various event management roles.
  • Work with event managers to ensure all events are staffed and a site supervisor is present at all times.
  • Ensure all positions such as scoreboard, announcer, music, concessions, video and tickets are covered.
  • Make sure all facets of game operations are running smoothly and staff are in place.
  • Reach out to visiting teams prior to competition and inform them of our event plan and details such as athletic trainer services, event location, protocols, locker room availability, parking, etc.
  • Assign someone to meet and greet officials, opposing teams, and event staff. Train staff about importance of hospitality and service.  We want a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
  • Plan entertainment or promotional activities for select events to help attract and engage fans.
  • Coordinate the purchasing and selling of food and beverages for all home sporting events. This would include product inventory, pricing, displays, cash management, and opening and closing procedures.
  • Responsible for overseeing the accounting and deposits of cash related to tickets sales and concessions.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Background in athletic communications and event management desired.
  • Understanding and commitment to Catholic and Franciscan values
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the duties of the position including good written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in computer use including Microsoft Office applications and Stat Crew statistical software desired
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
