Benvenuti da Genova!

Hello From Genoa!

Yesterday announced the arrival of all five graduates to the C.E. Daniel Villa for the 3rd Official Genoa Field School. Alison, Claire, Katie, and myself arrived in Italy on the 5th of May (Happy Cinco de Mayo!) in Rome where we later traveled to Florence before arriving at the Villa first in the mid-afternoon on the 13th. Frankie arrived in Rome on the 5th as well but headed to Pescara before visiting Chieuti, the birth place of her great-grandfather, to document her ancestral history. The weather since arriving has luckily been beautiful, sunny, and 72 plus degrees but shortly after visiting the grocery store and getting settled into the Villa, a thunderstorm rolled into the mountainous port of Genoa. Last night during the storm we rested up and made plans for the days to follow!

Today, Frances gave us a walking tour of Genoa to show us all the major landmarks so we can’t get lost. There are a lot of stairs, as previous years’ posts have attested to! Luckily for us, Florence’s Duomo and Tower visits have been great warm-ups to the stair workout Genoa has in store for us! Looking forward to starting documentation of the front façade of the Villa tomorrow.

Ciao!

Luckily for us this year Frances took us down to the shopping on Via XX Settembre where we visited Tezevi’s, Zara, and Coin to see the current Italian clothing trends!

Our last stop of the day before climbing up to the Villa was to stop at Profumo di Rosa Gelateria to get gelato!
