Just a friendly reminder that we always have access to art – right on campus! If you have not taken the time yet, stop by the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. This venue, located right inside our very own Marion and Wayland H. Cato Jr. Center for the Arts, features different exhibits, has free admission, and is open to the public.
What’s going on right now at Halsey?
The current exhibition at the Halsey Institute is the Pulse Dome Project which includes art and designs by Don ZanFagna. Inside the walls of the Cato Center, you will find paintings, drawings, sketchbooks, and 3-D models that explicate the futuristic concept of a home created, constructed, and maintained by all-organic processes and in perfect harmony with nature. The artist, Don ZanFagna is also an architect and designer. Throuhout his life, his work defied established categories. The idea of the Pulse Dome comes from a remarkable journey of discovery, chronicled in dozens of densely illustrated and annotated sketchbooks. The Pulse Dome encapsulates the idea of designing a form of sustainable architecture that was in harmony with natural processes.
What you should know:
The exhibition and publication Pulse Dome Project: Art and Design by Don ZanFagna has been made possible by generous grants from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and the Lucille Thompson Foundation.
The exhibition is free and open to the public – so stop in if you attend classes here, are visiting the school or if you are just passing through the city.
The Halsey Institute is open Monday through Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. On Thursdays, the exhibition stays open until 7pm.
This exhibition runs from October 19th to December 8th, 2012.
