Poetry Reading by Roger Reeves and Gary Jackson

On Friday night I attended the Roger Reeves and Gary Jackson poetry reading.  This was the first poetry reading I had ever been too and I’m so glad I went.  The night started off with Jackson reading about five poems that were all based on superheroes.  It was an awesome theme and I really enjoyed the one that was the father talking about his glass, mutant baby. Roger Reeves has quite a talent for reciting poems. The way he spoke showed how much he truly believed in his work and it was really moving. Also, his poems were full of these crazy vivid images. I wish I would have been able to attend the workshop he was offering the next day, especially since one of my favorite lines was “There is no metaphor for exile.”  It was a great experience and I’m excited to attend more events like this in the future!
