Ripper Narratives

In 1888, two years after the publication of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Thumbnailthe “Jack the Ripper” murders gripped London with a horribly real version of nightmarish crimes. The newspapers sensationalized the event, broadcasting every available detail.

There is a fairly comprehensive and well organized database of press accounts available at  Casebook: Jack the Ripper. This web site certainly provides a testament to an ongoing interest in these crimes. All of the many articles have been transcribed by volunteers, however, and there are some mistakes in the text. But lets take it for granted that the texts are accurate enough for our purposes.
