NFL Veteran, Esera Tuaolo, on “Being True to Yourself”

Esera Tuaolo, former NFL defensive tackle, is scheduled to speak at the College of Charleston today (Wednesday, October 10, 2012) . A keynote speaker for National Coming Out Day, he will share his message of “Being True to Yourself” at 7:00 p.m. in the Stern Center Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.

Who is Tuaolo?

Before 2002, Tuaolo played professional football for nine years. After he retired, he announced that he was gay during an interview on HBO’s Real Sports. Now, Tuaolo serves as a public advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Around the world, he spreads his message, telling his story and talking about his book, “Alone in the Trenches: My Life as a Gay Man in the NFL”.

What’s it all about?

October 11th is National Coming Out Day (NCOD). The day is about awareness and encourages individuals to be open up about sexual orientation. In addition, the day is about acceptance – both self-acceptance and acceptance by and for others.

Again, the Office of Student Life invites you to attend Tuaolo’s presentation at 7:00pm today in the Stern Center Ballroom (4th floor of the Stern Student Center). The event is free and open to the public.
