Saludos desde España by Isabel Solorio

Hola! My name is Maria Isabel Solorio and I am a junior majoring in Communication with a minor in Spanish. I am studying abroad in Trujillo, Spain through a CofC faculty-led program from September to December. There are several reason why I decided to study abroad but specifically a faculty-led program. The first main reason why I decided to study abroad is because of the location. Spain has always been a country I’ve wanted to travel to and Trujillo seemed like such a beautiful town. Second, I have to learn a little more about my Spanish heritage since I am Mexican and I know our cultures intertwined. Third, after a year of just doing online classes I was ready to meet new people as well as interact and immerse myself in a different culture. Finally, the reason for doing a faculty-led program is because I wanted to have a sense of security while abroad and I knew that having CofC professors would do that. I know that they will look out for us and make sure that we are taken care of and feel comfortable.
While in Spain my goal is to learn as much as possible about the history of Spain, travel within Europe and meet as many people as possible. I am so excited to be in Trujillo the town where Hernando Cortes was born, with a lot of history, beautiful buildings and drink cafe everyday. But I’m most excited about meeting my host family and getting to know them and their culture and traditions.
