Post Guidelines

When blogging:

(1) Use images and links–this is what makes online writing connective and dynamic!

(2) Don’t assume the reader is familiar with anything you’re writing about–this means you need to contextualize more than you might assume. And it means you need to situate quotes within the narrative or critical action, and not refer to things like “chapters.” Explain concepts clearly and helpfully: the goal isn’t to convey to your peers or professor that you know what you’re talking about; the goal is to educate your broader readership.

(3) Always craft an engaging title (not referring to the assignment–e.g. “Blog Post 1”

(4) Use more paragraph breaks that you might normally use–this is typical of online writing as readers have a harder time making it through large swaths of digital text without a break.

(5) For creative posts, begin with a preface that lets the reader know a bit about your intentions for crafting the story or scene the way you do (using relevant concepts from RA, or an engagement with the core text we’re reading.
