Douglas Ashley to Present Retirement Performance

Please join us on Monday, October 22 for a very special performance by Douglas Ashley, Professor of Piano, in celebration of his retirement. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Simons Center for the Arts (54 St. Philip Street), with a reception following. Admission is $10 at the door and free for College of Charleston students.

A longtime performer for the Monday Night Concert Series, Dr. Ashley will play Adagio from “Gazebo Dances” by John Corigliano, Sonata in E major, Op.109 by Ludwig van Beethoven, and Sonata in B minor, Op.58 by Frederic Chopin.

An accomplished musician, Dr. Ashley has played in 17 states, including three performances in New York City; the first performance was at La Maison Francaise of  New York University and the second in the recital hall at Carnegie Hall for the Fontainebleau Alumni Concert. Under the sponsorship of the William Kapell Piano Foundation for Contemporary Music and Musicians, he played an entire recital in the Theresa L. Kaufmann Concert Hall at the 92nd Street Y. He also has performed in a dozen European countries in addition to being heard on Radio Vatican and in concert at the Palazzo Cancelleria of the Vatican.
