About the Program

Trujillo, located southwest of Madrid and about 60 miles from the border of Portugal in the Extremadura region of Spain, is a charming, medieval, walled city perched on a hill.  A thriving center of Spanish tourism with a rich historical past, Trujillo is the place of origin of many conquistadors, including the Pizarros.  The city is also home to one of Spain’s most beautiful central plazas – the Plaza Mayor – a stunning architectural gem that students quickly learn is the heart of this small, but vibrant Extremaduran town.

The College of Charleston Trujillo fall semester program offers students the opportunity to study with CofC faculty while abroad in Spain, and to be immersed in Spanish language and culture through living with experienced host families. The fall 2023 interdisciplinary semester is designed for any student with an interest in communication, English studies, writing, literature, film, and/or women’s and gender studies.
