Duo Cortona: Mezzo-Soprano + Violin Concert

Opening the 2017-18 season of the 2nd Monday Series is Duo Cortona, a contemporary music ensemble dedicated to the creation of works for its unique instrumentation: mezzo-soprano and violin. The concert will include select works from Guillaume de Machaut, Laura Schwendinger, Amadeus Regucera, Jeff Myers and Kamala Sankaram.

DETAILS: The concert will take place on Monday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Recital Hall of the Simons Center of the Arts, 54 Saint Philip St. General admission is $15 and $10 for all students with school I.D. Tickets can be purchased online, at the door, or by calling (843) 953-6315. 

As an internationally recognized leading interpreter of contemporary and modern music, mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway brings versatility and compelling insight to stages worldwide. Her work has been praised by The New York Times for “penetrating clarity” and “considerable depth of expression” and byOpera News for her “adept musicianship and dramatic flair.” Calloway holds degrees from The Juilliard School (Bachelor of Music) and Manhattan School of Music (Master of Music). Calloway can be heard on Albany Records, Tzadik Records, BCMF Records, and Toccata Classics.
Violinist Ari Streisfeld has garnered critical acclaim worldwide for his performances of diverse repertoire and has established himself as one of the foremost interpreters of contemporary classical music. Praised for his “dazzling performance” by The New York Timesand “scintillating playing” by New York Classical Review, Streisfeld has toured worldwide as a founding member of the world renowned JACK Quartet. Together with his wife, Calloway, he formed Duo Cortona. Streisfeld holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (Bachelor of Music), Northwestern University (Master of Music), and Boston University (Doctor of Musical Arts). His teachers have included Zvi Zeitlin, Almita Vamos, and Peter Zazofsky.
