Gender and Human experience at the Political Science Convocation, Co-Sponsored by the Sociology and Anthropology Department

The College of Charleston’s 2012 Department of Political Science Convocation of Majors will feature leading attorney and advocate Lisa Gilinger, who will speak about gender and the human experience. The event will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 7 p.m. in Physician’s Auditorium. Gilinger will explore the role of gender and its implications for the interplay between sex, identity, society, and culture.

Lisa Gilinger is a practicing attorney in Santa Barbara, California. She is a voting member of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health and is on the Board of Directors for TransYouth Family Allies. In her work for TYFA she draws on her personal experience and her legal training to help support young people and adults in understanding and transexuality and transgendering.

The Convocation is co-sponsored by the Political Science Club, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, the Departments of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Philosophy, the Multi-Cultural Student Programs and Services, the Student Government Association, the Office of Institutional Diversity, the Carolina Transgender Society, the Alliance for Full Acceptance, and the Charleston School of Law Office of Diversity Initiatives.
