Charleston School of Business Faculty & Staff Updates

Supporting The Right People

In my first email to faculty and staff back in July, I wrote about how apparent it was that our business school is a special place because of spectacular people – the right people. This week, I think about how we can intentionally develop, support, and empower them.

That said, I’m pleased to remind you that the Office of the Provost has invested in an Institutional Membership with the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). The NCFDD is an independent faculty development center dedicated to supporting academics in making successful transitions throughout their careers. By virtue of our institutional membership, all faculty, postdocs, and graduate students at the College of Charleston have access to the following NCFDD resources at no additional cost:

  • Weekly Monday Motivator
  • Monthly Core Curriculum Webinars
  • Monthly Guest Expert Webinars
  • Multi-Week Courses
  • Dissertation Success Curriculum for graduate students
  • Private Discussion Forum for peer-mentoring, problem-solving, & moderated writing challenges
  • Monthly accountability buddy matches
  • 14-Day Writing Challenges (offered three times a year)
  • Member Library that includes past webinar materials, referrals, and readings

To use the College’s institutional membership at the NCFDD, you will need to activate your own account as follows:

  1. Go to http://www.FacultyDiversity.org/Join.
  2. Choose the College of Charleston from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select “Activate my Membership.”
  4. Complete the registration form using your CofC email address.
  5. Find the NCFDD confirmation email in your CofC inbox and click the “Activate Account” button in that email.

Additional information can be found on the flyer and this document.

I encourage you to take advantage of the resources available through the NCFDD. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact Margaret Hagood at HagoodM@cofc.edu or Deanna Caveny at CavenyD@cofc.edu. Any technical questions may be directed to the NCFDD at Membership@FacultyDiversity.org.

As for staff, HR has excellent Training and Development opportunities, including the Employee Tuition Assistance Program, to help you reach your goals. As we build CARE (Clarity, Accountability, Respect, Encouragement) into our culture, it is important that we invest in our greatest asset – our people.

YOU make a difference.
