Campus Safety Awareness Month- Week 2

By | September 9, 2014
What a great first week of Campus Safety Awareness month.  We hope that everyone was able to attend at least one of the programs being offered.  As mentioned in the previous week’s e-mail, each week has a different theme.  This week’s theme is Sexual Violence (Awareness, Prevention, & Response).
In keeping with the theme, Public Safety is offering  Rape Aggression Defense throughout the month starting today (Monday, September 8th).  This first session is at Public Safety from 5pm to 8pm.  Subsequent sessions (Sept. 10, 15, and 17) will be held at the N.E. Miles Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) at 91 Wentworth Street from 5pm to 8pm.  For further information on this program, please e-mail RAD@cofc.edu.
Other events occurring this week are:
Public Safety Town Hall Meeting:  This event will be on Tuesday September 9th in Stern 206 starting at 3:30pm and is hosted by our Crime Prevention Officer Madeline Sloan and will be focused towards students.  Refreshments and snacks will be served.
NV Day-Candlelight Vigil (No Violence No Victims): OVS/SCOPE will host this event on Tuesday September 9th from 6:45pm to 7:45pm in the Cistern Yard.  There will be music, and a survivor of violence will be featured.
Cougar Counseling Team Information Table (Sexual Violence): Counseling Services will be providing information about the prevention of Sexual Violence from 10am to 2pm on Rivers Green, Thursday, September 11.
People Against Rape (PAR): PAR will be on campus Thursday September 11 to give a presentation on Consent starting at 3pm.  The location is still being determined, and a follow up message will be sent once it has been set.
Breakfast with Public Safety: Come enjoy bagels (Provided by the Charleston Bagel Company) and coffee in Cougar Mall starting at 9:30am on Friday September 12.
The Lock It or Lose It bicycle display will continue to be placed in different places throughout campus during September.  Look for it this week in the Simons Center Courtyard, Cougar Mall, and near the clock at the intersection of College Way and Green Way.  Take a minute to take a look at the display as it shows the preferred method of locking your bicycle to a bicycle rack.  There have been some bicycle thefts in and around campus recently, and securing your bicycle properly will greatly reduce the chance of your bicycle being stolen.
Also, please be sure to take advantage of the Cougar Shuttle and Public Safety Escorts.  The telephone number for Cougar Shuttle is (888) 960-2227, and escorts by Public Safety can be requested at (843) 953-5609.
As always, Be Safe!
