I chose to analyze this specific scene from Kuhle Wampe, because I feel like it really sets the stage for the entire film and gives insight to what the film is going to be about. In this scene, workers are shown riding their bikes in search of employment, stopping at countless stores in hopes they are hiring. The clips are cut very short and the music is very fast paced. This creates tension and stress, most likely simulating how the workers are feeling at that moment of desperation and uncertainty. However, the synchronicity and the close up filming of the unemployed workers bicycling together symbolizes unity. It reveals how they are all in this crisis together and are helpful to one another. The scene shows their determination and dedication to find a job in hopes of providing for their families. I chose to analyze this scene because I think it is one of the most important and pivotal ones in the film. Even through all the hardships the workers experience, an important theme in this film, other than unemployment, is dignity. The unison of the workers displays the struggles that the working class had gone through at that time, and currently goes through in a capitalist society.
