The Lionel Pearson Fellowship is a top national honor presented each year by the American Philological Association, one of the top two professional associations for Classics in North America. Each year, one senior undergraduate nationwide is selected for the award. The Pearson Fellowship funds a year of post-graduate study in Classics at a university in the U.K. She plans to apply to the M.A. program in the City of Rome at the University of Reading. This unique program combines coursework in ancient languages, history, and art at the Reading campus with several months of study and research at the British School in Rome.

Student Research Nationally Recognized
Angelina Phebus, a senior AB classics major, was awarded first runner-up overall in the poster session at the annual meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America – one of the top two professional associations for Classics in North America. This is especially praiseworthy given the fact that her work was judged within the overall category. Her research (Analyzing Bronze Age Terrestrial and Marine Communication Routes in the Saronic Gulf and Argolid), co-authored by J. Newhard and N. Levine, was praised for its organized layout, clarity of discussion, and importance of her research.
Kristen Gentile Presents Research on Ancient Medicine at National Conference
Dr. Kristen Gentile presented aspects of her recent research (Demeter’s Foods: Curing Infertility in Hippocratic Gynecology) at the 142nd meeting of the American Philological Association on January 9. Her work, crossing the boundaries of religion, women’s studies, and medicine, brings a unique insight into the ancient world.
