In an effort to further develop a culture of project management both within IT and at the College, Information Technology invited Mr. Dan Furlong from PM One to provide a “high level” introduction to project management using PMI standards. IT also invited other departments on campus to participate in the workshop such as Procurement, Human Resources, Registrar’s Office, School of Education, Health and Human Performance, and Institutional Advancement. Twenty-eight College staff participated in the training held on November 12th and 13, 2013. The jam-packed days covered content such as project management terms, fundamentals, framework and the project life cycle. On Day two, the team reviewed the knowledge and skills learned and applied them to a case study.
The image below captures a group of participants trying to lower a helium stick as a team. This proved to be more challenging than they had initially thought.
IT plans to schedule another project management training workshop in July 2014. If you are interested in attending, please email Jeremy Clement at Clementj@cofc.edu.
