Modest job gains ‘good sign’ in S.C.- Charleston Post and Courier

“The good news is this is the third month with a decline in unemployment,” said College of Charleston economist Frank Hefner. “It’s also a good sign that manufacturing added jobs. That’s important to other sectors of the economy because it translates into increases in transportation, port activity and more retail as people spend more.”

Money on trees: College of Charleston Foundation gets forestry grant – Charleston Business Journal

The College of Charleston Foundation will use a $140,000 grant to transform hundreds of acres at Dixie Plantation in Hollywood into renewable forest. Funding for the effort is coming from the Chicago-based Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, which supports conservation efforts in the Lowcountry. The money will be released over the next three years.
