Brook Irving: Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Communication
Dr. Irving earned her PhD in communication studies from the University of Iowa. She’s previously taught courses on public speaking, interpersonal communication, persuasion, public relations, and methods.
Lisa Young: Assistant Professor, Department of English
Dr. Young earned her PhD from Purdue University. Her research and teaching interests include 20th century African American literature, the black press, housing inequality, medical humanities, and digital humanities.
Shannon Eaves: Assistant Professor, Department of History
Dr. Eaves earned her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of African American History here at the College of Charleston. She is a specialist in 19thcentury U.S. History, African American History, and Slavery and Gender in the Antebellum South.
Heidi Krajewski: Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of History
Dr. Krajewski specializes in Latin American history. She received her MA in Latin American Studies and her PhD in Modern Latin American history from Tulane University. Her research focuses on the social and political history of Nicaragua during the second half of twentieth century.
Wei-ti Chen: Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of History
Dr. Chen is a social and cultural historian of modern Japan, with a specific focus on empire, medicine, migration, and transnational history. She received her PhD. from the University of Chicago in 2016.
Laura Specker Sullivan: Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy
Dr. Laura Specker Sullivan received her PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She specializes in biomedical ethics, Japanese and comparative philosophy, and normative ethical theory.
Garson Leder: Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy
Dr. Leder received his PhD from the University of British Columbia. His areas of specialization include philosophy of psychiatry, biomedical ethics, and moral psychology.
Ian Sullivan: Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy
Dr. Ian Sullivan received his PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He specializes in ethics and applied ethics, Asian philosophies and religions, and gender studies, and he teaches courses in the philosophy religious studies departments, as well as the women’s and gender studies program at the College.
Briana McGinnis: Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science
Dr. McGinnis earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and her PhD. in government from Georgetown University. She teaches courses in political theory (both historical and contemporary) and constitutional law, and her research centers on political theory and public law, with a special focus on citizenship and belonging.
Shyam Sriam: Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science
Dr. Sriam earned his PhD from the University of California at Santa Barbara. His research and teaching specializes in Asian American politics, religion and politics (particularly Islam), immigration, refugee resettlement, and campaigns and elections.
Julia McReynolds-Perez: Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology
Dr. McReynolds-Perez earned her PhD in sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her research interests include medial sociology, global health, race and ethnicity, immigration, Latin America, and sexualities.
Dave Morris: Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology
Dr. Morris earned his PhD in sociology from the University of Virginia. His research interests include educational inequality, social stratification, and political behavior.
