A Day at Doneraile

6/11/14- On Wednesday we had the opportunity to go inside of Doneraile estate house. Through Eric’s connections and contacts, we were the first visitors in at least 10 years that had the chance to go inside. Doneraile house has never been open to the public, it was the home of Lord Doneraile on his grand estate.

The house is now in a state of disrepair. In the 1980s, the house was restored but never opened to the public or for private residence. There are infamous stories of Doneraile’s ghosts and sadly we have no new experiences to report back with. Even in a state of disrepair the house retains much of its former glory. It was Neo-classical in style with bright beautiful colors and a flying staircase.

After a tour of the first floor of the house, we walked around the grounds, which are now a park and wildlife sanctuary. It was a beautiful and busy park where we made many new dog friends. We walked in a loop around the park taking us past lakes, streams, wild deer and through the forest.
