DAY SIX

Friday marked the conclusion of our first week on site.  Since we had limited time at the Abbey the previous day we were ready to finish collecting measurements for our elevations.  We split in to two teams of three; one beginning on the south side of the Abbey and the other on the North.  By the time we broke for tea we had gotten these sides finished and began on the east and west.  It took less than an hour to finish up the east and west sides as well.  Before we packed up for the day Carter and Eric led us on a walk around the site to discuss architectural details and questions yet to be answered that were uncovered in the past week.

Having concluded the site work by early afternoon we decided to explore Youghal for the afternoon.  Our first stop was the Red Store Restaurant for coffee and scones.   After the delectable refreshment we ventured off to walk the wall.  On the way up we stopped at the medieval Collegiate Church of St. Mary which was absolutely beautiful.  From here we made our way up to the wall and into the tower where we were able to see gorgeous views of the city and gardens below.

After finding out Neale hadn’t seen one of our favorite funny movies, we found a copy at the local Tesco and made an evening of it.   With our abundant leftovers for dinner, we could really have a relaxing and hilarious Friday night—all ten of us.  When we finished the movie Allisyn noticed the sunset over the house so we wandered out to visit the cows and watch the sun go down.  It was an especially lovely one and the perfect way to end another wonderful day in Ireland.
