Join Professor Affonso on Monday, February 27th to hear from Google Android Marketing Strategist Steve Logue.

Steve Logue is Head of Android Marketing Strategy at Google, where he looks after GTM plans and ecosystem partnerships globally. He is also an External Advisor at Bain & Co in the telco practice.

Prior to these roles, he worked 25 years in the mobile communications sector in the US, Latin America, Europe, and China. He was founder and CEO of Virgin Mobile Latin America, partnering with Sir Richard Branson and PE investors to build a mobile startup across the region.

Steve will be speaking in Beatty 320 on Monday, February 27th, from 10:00 to 10:50. All Honors Students are welcome to attend!

Student leaders in the School of Business: Apply today to join the Schottland Scholars Program.

The Program: A prestigious leadership program designed for highly motivated school of business students. The program aims to connect the scholars to business and organizational leaders who have made a difference within their own companies but in the community as well.

Great Fit For: Current juniors majoring in a School of Business discipline with a strong academic record and leadership qualities.

How to Apply: Submit an application by the March 6 deadline.

Open Data Day 2023

Open Data Day is an annual celebration of open data all over the world. Groups from around the world create local events on the day where they will use open data in their communities. It is an opportunity to show the benefits of open data and encourage the adoption of open data policies in government, business, and civil society.

The 2nd Annual Open Data Day program will be held virtually on Friday, March 3rd, from 9:00AM-3:30PM.

There will be presentations that focus on using open data in a variety of ways such as apps, decision support, and storytelling, and there will even be some tutorials!

A draft agenda is available and attendees are welcome to attend any portion of the day’s program.

South Carolina Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting

The South Carolina Academy of Sciences (SCAS) will be having their Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at MUSC.

The Annual Meeting provides a venue for Graduate and Undergraduate Students (SCAS) to present their research and win scholarships.

Dr. Lori McMahon, MUSC Vice President for Research, will be the Plenary Speaker for the 2023 Annual Meeting.

Abstracts are being accepted until Friday, February 24, 2023, from Undergraduate and Graduate Students for Oral and Poster Presentations.

The deadline to register for the SCAS Annual Meeting is Saturday, March 4, 2023

7th Annual German-American Business Summit

The German-American Business Summit on February 8th, 2023 in the Stern Center Ballroom will provide a unique opportunity to connect with German companies in the Southeastern US that are seeking to establish stronger ties to undergraduate education in the region.

The event consists of a job and internship expo, keynote presentations and panel discussions from business leaders on pressing issues in German-American industry, and a networking reception. Both of the day’s main events provide extensive opportunities for networking. This event is intended for any student with a global orientation that wants to work in industry or rehearse and work on how to interact with and explore job opportunities.

2023 Student Entrepreneur of the Year

The Center for Entrepreneurship is looking for applications for the College of Charleston “2023 Student Entrepreneur of the Year.” The winner will be recognized on April 12th at the Tommy Baker Entrepreneurship Hour and receive an award of $1,000 to help grow their business.

Any full-time enrolled student at the College of Charleston is invited to apply by the Sunday, February 12, 2023 deadline.

Additionally, Student entrepreneurs are also eligible to join the Founders Club to help students launch and grow their enterprises by bringing in noted entrepreneurs for mentoring and advice. The Founders Club’s next meeting is this Wednesday, February 1 from 5:00-6:00 in Beatty 120 (the Impact X room on the ground floor of the School of Business).

Motivational Speaker Chris Singleton to Speak with Students

Join the College’s Entrepreneurship Program and the Honors College in welcoming special guest speak Chris Singleton to a public talk for students!

The Talk: Thursday, Feb 2 from 9:25am-10:40am in Wells Fargo Auditorium, Beatty Center.

The Speaker: Chris Singletonis a former professional athlete drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2017. Following the loss of his mother in a racially motivated mass shooting, Chris has become an inspirational speaker and best-selling author who has shared his message of unity and racial reconciliation with over 100 organizations and over 30,000 students annually.
