All Honors College students are required to complete HONS 110 Honors Academic Writing during their first year in the Honors College.
HONS 110 Honors Academic Writing (Professors Devin Byker, Jesslyn Collins-Frohlich, Meg Scott-Copses, Anton Vander Zee, Ana Lonon (Instructor varies by section))
Four credits
An accelerated introduction to the practices necessary for successful college writing at the quality expected of Honors College students. Taken during a student’s first year. This course satisfies the requirements for ENGL 110. Students may not receive credit for both.
This course fulfills the College’s General Education First Year Writing requirement
Teaching Format: All Honors Academic Writing courses will be taught online, with content delivered both synchronously and asynchronously. The exact format will vary based on the instructor. See notes below:
HONS 110.01/02 (Devin Byker) – Largely asynchronous with synchronous meetings for peer review sessions and conferences with the instructor. Synchronous meetings will happen at least every 2 out of 3 weeks. Students will first meet live for a brief discussion with the entire class and then split into smaller groups of 2-4 people to workshop their writing.
HONS 110.03 (Jesslyn Collins-Frohlich) – Synchronous online meetings with additional asynchronous content.
HONS 110.04 (Lisa Young) – Synchronous online meetings with additional asynchronous content.
HONS 110.05 (Anton Vander Zee) – Largely asynchronous with once-a-week synchronous meetings or one-on-one conference meetings with the instructor.
HONS 110.06/07 (Anna Lonon) – Synchronous online meetings with additional asynchronous content (course theme is “How to Be Happy”).
