Outstanding educators are found throughout Dorchester District 2’s cadre of first-year teachers, and many are our graduates! Congratulations to Jackie Radabaugh, MAT Special Education ‘13. She was awarded “Rookie Teacher of the Year Award” by Newington Elementary School in Summerville, SC. Nominees for Rookie Teacher of the Year must meet impressive criteria; candidates must be a classroom teacher with fewer than 5 years of experience that show promise as an exceptional educator capable of meeting the needs of students as well as developing professional expertise and leadership abilities.

Jackie graduated from Charleston Southern University with a degree in Communications, but after a year working post-graduation, she decided to attend College of Charleston to pursue a Master’s of Arts in Teaching degree. “I realized that I was not happy and challenged in the field I was working in. After much thought and many prayers, I decided to go to College of Charleston to earn my masters degree in Special Education with an emphasis on Learning Disabilities.” After graduation, Jackie accepted a job at Newington Elementary School, where she is currently working with children in kindergarten through second grade with learning disabilities in a resource and inclusion setting. “I have enjoyed every minute of it!” Jackie says of her new teaching position. “The special education team at Newington is phenomenal and everyone at the school has been so supportive and welcoming during my rookie year. I could not imagine doing anything else!” Exceptional teachers like Jackie bring high expectations for every student, a belief in each child’s potential and a commitment to work each day. Congrats Jackie! We wish you continued success!
