Second Chance To See MissRepresentation

Engage in a discussion about the positive portrayal of women in media at a 90 minute screening of MISS REPRESENTATION. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, this film shares the stories of women from various industries, experiences and ages about the impact media has on its audience. Join in this critical discussion of the portrayal of women in today’s media, and how you can help others see what they can be.

The first viewing of this film was this past Saturday, and the turn out was inspiring. Speaking from experience, this film sparks emotions of rage, anger, encouragement, sadness, and empowerment. It is something both men and women, adults and children need to see. Not only does it bring attention to the current reality of how our society portrays women, but it also provides encouragement for us to change this reality.

MISS REPRESENTATION will be hosted on the College of Charleston campus this Wednesday, February 1 at 3:00 p.m. in room 129 of the New Science Building. This building is located on the corner of Calhoun and Coming Streets. Watch the trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gkIiV6konY&feature=youtu.be. See you all there!

Many thanks to our co-hosts, the College of Charleston Library, Women and Gender Studies, and the Center for Women.
