Jazz Artists of Charleston

To me, jazz has always seemed like a type of music situated in a different era.  I never really thought I could relate to it. But, as I have learned throughout life, I need to give things more of a chance.  I have come to find that jazz is lively yet calming, and I have begun to appreciate the instrumental talent embedded in jazz music.

Jazz Artists of Charleston is a non-profit organization that works to foster a professional environment for jazz musicians, artists, students and enthusiasts in the Charleston area. JAC seeks to create and promote alliances within the Charleston music community that unite artists, students, and teachers with JAC resources.

For the second year in a row, the noted culinary and National Historic Landmark, McCrady’s Restaurant, will open its upstairs Gallery Room during the Spoleto Festival Season.  The JAC Jazz Series at McCrady’s is a diverse showcase of local and regional live jazz performances in an intimate setting. I have been to concerts of all sizes, and I have found that sometimes the smaller ones can be more entertaining.  It’s nice to be close and kind of feel a connection with the artists.  For Set I, doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. For Set II, doors open at 9:30 p.m., and the show starts at 10:00 p.m.  The admission price is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the concert. While this is a little pricy for our budgets, if you like jazz music this series seems like a great opportunity for you to enjoy cuisine that is fresh from the farm while supporting local talent

Below is a list of the upcoming JAC events at McCrady’s:

June 6- Tenor Madness
June 7- Duda Lucena Quartet
June 8- Charlton Singleton Sextet
June 9- Lewis/Ligon/Wiltrout/Wolf
**June 10 – SPECIAL EVENT: Charleston All-Stars ($40 Advance / $50 Day-of)
