Graduate Student Research Poster Session

Forty graduate students will gather this Thursday to present their research efforts to you, the College of Charleston community. At the 5th annual Graduate Student Research Poster session, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the 29 projects these students examined at length. The session will begin at 4:00 in the Stern Student Center Ballroom, and will run until 6:00 p.m.

Poster sessions are often considered as a way to showcase research within the sciences. We strongly encourage students across all disciplines to present their ideas; programs represented in this year’s poster session include Communication, Education, English, Environmental Studies, History, Marine Biology, and Public Administration.

If you have never attended a poster session, it is a very informal event. Posters are displayed throughout the room, while the presenters are on hand to walk you through their research. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about things outside your comfort zone. Last year, I learned  about the dynamics of nearly circular vortex filaments, Centropristis striata, romance in a post 9/11 world. To attend a research poster session is to explore the interdisciplinary relationships of education, which to me, is a great way to spend two hours. So, if you haven’t already, you should consider attending this event and support local students.
