Registration Update

It’s that time of year again; Winter’s almost over and we all find ourselves thinking ahead to future plans. So, the subject of registering for classes couldn’t be discussed at a more appropriate time.  Starting today, all graduate degree-seeking students who are currently enrolled in classes can start enrolling in Maymester and Summer classes via CougarTrail. On March 8th, all currently-enrolled Certificate program students will also be able to access CougarTrail to enroll in Summer 2010 courses. However, you should be aware that a major change is coming for Fall registration.

CougarTrail will no longer be used for registration after the Summer terms. Our new student portal, MyCharleston, will be the nexus of all your registration and record-keeping activities starting this Fall. If you’re a current student, you should have recently received an email in your Edisto Account from the Registrar’s Office explaining how to access the new system.

Regan Fantry, our Director of Student Records, has provided us with the following important guidelines to remember so that registering for Fall 2010 classes is a quick and easy process:

Beginning in the Fall 2010 semester, the College of Charleston will be entering a new era in technology when the campus is completely transitioned to the Banner Information System.  This new system is designed to be a one-stop shop for faculty, staff, and students.

One of the most exciting features of the new system is the online portal known as MyCharleston.  This portal will serve as your information resource for logging into your account online and your email.  It can also be customized by the user to update daily information such as campus blogs and twitter accounts you may be following.  Beginning in Fall 2010, MyCharleston will replace CougarTrail as the go-to place for students to register, order transcripts, check account balances, pay for classes, and monitor degree progress.

Students can now begin logging into MyCharleston in preparation for using it to register for the Fall 2010 semester.  Registration for degree seeking graduate students opens up on March 15, 2010.  Registration dates follow for certificate students on June 7, 2010, and non-degree students on July 19, 2010.

Be forewarned that when MyCharleston prompts you to set your password, it will reset it for ALL of your College network logins (email, classroom and library computers, and PDA devices)!  No more having to remember a different password for each of your logins!

Don’t forget to check your account and log in by March 12, 2010 in order to be entered into a drawing for $25!  Go to the Academic Services tab on your MyCharleston homepage to find the link to the drawing.

Be sure to bookmark MyCharleston at my.cofc.edu as one of your favorite places!  We will be adding new features over the coming year to make it an even more user friendly information resource for students!

For guidance on using the new MyCharleston portal, view the student tutorial before you log in. I hope you’re as excited as we are about this fantastic new technology! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us or speak to us by phone at 843-953-5614.
