What’s happening this semester?

blue bookIs it me, or does the Spring semester go by faster than the Fall?  It might be the fact that the days are getting longer, and trips to the beach are only weeks away. It could even be that we’re a mere 20 weeks closer to summer break. Whatever the reason, Spring semester is always full of events and deadlines.

We kick off the semester welcoming new graduate students on Thursday, January 7 at 6:00 in Tate 207 for the Graduate Student Orientation.  Classes begin on Monday, January 11 followed very quickly by the Graduate Student Research Poster Session on Thursday, January 28. This is an excellent opportunity for our graduate students to showcase their work to the College of Charleston community. Students, faculty and staff are all invited to the Poster Session to learn more about the research our bright students are conducting. Also invited are the College of Charleston Board of Trustees, and the new Graduate School Advisory Board.  The Advisory Board will hold its inaugural meeting at the college on January 27-28, and we are grateful for their willingness to help shape the future of The Graduate School.

The Graduate School will host several Responsible Conduct of Research seminars for new students as well as an Electronic Thesis workshop for those ready to graduate. Not only that, but we will continue to keep our doors open two hours later than usual on the third Monday and Friday of the months. This means you can stop by our office anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the days we host extended hours. You are also welcome to request an after-hours appointment if this doesn’t fit well with your schedule.

If you feel you and your colleagues would benefit from an additional workshop, please let us know. You can either email us or call Niki at 843.953.1435.

Best of luck this semester!
