Prof. Joe Kelly’s New Book Hits Close to Home

This summer, Prof. Joe Kelly published America’s Longest Siege: Charleston, Slavery, and the Slow March Toward Civil War. According to Charleston historian Robert Rosen, Dr. Kelly’s book “vividly and accurately portrays Charleston as ‘ground zero’ in America’s long struggle over slavery,” while O. Vernon Burton, author of The Age of Lincoln, describes it as “an essential contribution to American history.”
