New Roads School: Seeking Communications Coordinator

Position Description:  Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Communications Coordinator is a key member of the New Roads Schools Communications team. The Communications Coordinator develops a broad range of communications and marketing experience in a non-profit or educational setting. Using skills in content management in both print and online media, the Communications Coordinator supports the design and production of New Roads communications. The Communications Coordinator assists with the implementation of multiple communications initiatives for the school K-12 and provides a wide range of administrative and project support to the Communications Department.

Essential Duties:  

The Communications Coordinator directly assists the Communications offices with:

  • Drafting, editing and distributing eblasts, news stories and press releases
  • Database maintenance
  • Event and activity photography and video recording, photo editing, photo archiving, video editing
  • Coordinate and implement engaging content for social media social media and track analytics
  • Monitor the school’s online presence, updating online profiles as needed
  • Coordinate,  proofread, copyedit, format all content for the weekly parent e-newsletter
  • Update all public pages of the website, including ongoing review of content and layout, refresh the website for each new academic year
  • Publish various content as requested, internally and externally
  • Coordinate, proofread, format and send email blast “pushpages” as assigned
  • Update, edit, and generate school forms both digital and print
  • Create resource boards and “group” pages on New Roads’ internal site, MyRoads
  • Respond to ongoing communications requests from from students, faculty, and staff
  • Research strategies to improve website design improvements, taking into account the user experience
  • In collaboration with the Director of Communications, maintain consistent communications, messaging, branding, etc., as appropriate, across all departments and programs
  • Analyze user behavior data and make content improvements based on metrics
  • Collaborate with various school departments on communication projects for the advancement of the school
  • Other additional assignments, administrative duties, and projects as needed

Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated excellence and consistency in verbal and written communication; solid knowledge of grammar required

  • Must write well in multiple voices for different audiences and contexts

  • Graphic design skills, including strong knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Blackbaud school management software experience a plus

  • Proficiency in content management systems; experience with HTML and CSS a plus

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple, conflicting, and changing needs while still maximizing efficiency

  • Strong work ethic

  • Ability to learn quickly

  • Organized and detail oriented

  • A keen eye for design

  • Strong interpersonal skills—empathy, flexibility, and a sense of humor

  • Ability to work effectively with all constituencies within the school’s internal and external communities (faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni)

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 1-3 years professional experience, preferably in an office setting, preferred
