Farewell To Tom Casey

Posted by: Jennifer Stevens | April 11, 2012 | No Comment |

Tom Casey, Director of Human Resources, is retiring from the College on April 30.

Originally from Union City, Tennessee, Casey attended Lipscomb University (formerly David Lipscomb College) in Nashville.

Before joining the College in 2001, Casey spent 30 years in HR manager, director, and vice-president positions for various privately and publicly held companies and corporations. Working in Human Resources and Labor Relations, Casey spent time in a handful of states including Tennessee, Arkansas, New Jersey, Illinois, Georgia, and South Carolina.

After taking the HR director position, Casey was tasked with transitioning from the private sector into an academia setting. He admits it was a challenge. The biggest positive in his job has been working in academia and state government, something he had no prior experience with.

A few of Casey’s favorite memories over the past 10 years include helping the HR staff become a respected, creditable function and providing support and HR counsel to many College faculty and staff employees. He also started the annual Veteran’s Day recognition of College employee and student military veterans.

Casey’s favorite aspect of Charleston is the mild year-round climate. The weather, paired with his passion for golf, means that Casey will be working on his game. Hopefully, you’ll see Casey on a course near you.
