GML welcomed two terrapins to the lab this week. The first of the two terrapins is a 6-month old that is located in Shelly’s office. This little one hatched from an egg that was surgically removed from a mama turtle that was killed by a car. We’ve named it “Dalai,” which means ‘ocean’ in Hindi.
The second of the two terrapins is an older turtle named Dory. Dory was brought to the SC Aquarium with extensive injuries to three legs, its face, and tail. The aquarium could not keep Dory because the other terrapins picked on her. She has recovered from her injuries and is going to live out her life in the wet lab here at Grice. Captain Pete made a roomy tank for Dory, complete with rocks to climb on, small fish, and crabs to chase.
Thanks to the SC Aquarium for the two newest members of the Grice family. Welcome, Dalai and Dory!
