About Me

Hello, and welcome to my Blog! Here is a little bit more about who I am inside and outside of work.

At the college I was a business student who kind of stumbled into the IT space. I graduated in the spring of 2018 with a Bachelors in Business Administration, and during school most of my classes were focused in management or in finance. I also maintained a healthy dose of interest in economics. Outside of the business realm I took a great deal of classes to expand my knowledge. I got experience with coding in Python, ancient Roman and Greek history, and even adventured into classes such as sailing. I also was a part of a couple of clubs attending Finance Club meetings and participating in the Outdoor Club adventures.

I started out my career at CofC as a student worker in the wireless network engineering team. I dipped my toes into a little bit of Xirrus, Juniper, Aruba, and Cisco OS’s while simultaneously helping to maintain the physical network spaces. After wireless I moved to our wired team where I got a lot of experience working with racks and screws and uncomfortably small spaces!

After graduating I became a temporary worker over the summer so I would be able to fund a two month trip to Europe. I went on this trip with a girlfriend and my brother and we hit 13 different countries starting in Oslo, Norway. We made our way down to Italy, across to Greece and then trekked our way back up to Oslo. It was an absolutely amazing trip.

When I got back I got rehired and I expressed interest in moving to the more business side of IT. My supervisor allowed me to split my time with the fledgling project management division at CofC. About two months later after someone had quit their job and left a vacancy upon which I was asked to fill. Now I am CofC’s newest junior business analyst.

Outside of work I love reading! I have formed the cult of Red Rising which is a group dedicated to the enjoyment of the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. I call it a cult because I recommend this book to anybody who enjoys science fiction and everyone has expressed to me how much they love this series. One woman I know managed to read the first two books in three days which is absolutely impressive. Obviously I really like Pierce Brown as an author, but other favorite authors include Brent Weeks, Pat Conroy (I cannot recommend Beach Music enough!), and Ronald Balson. I also enjoy traveling, playing games (both tabletop and video), hiking, scuba diving, and being on the water. I also love hanging out with my friends and family.

Finally, I also love growth. By this I mean I am constantly looking for ways to improve myself. In the BA and PM world I’m always looking for more tasks to complete because I believe that the best way to grow is to do. By doing tasks I can expand my knowledge and improve my skill set to make me a better team member. I love working with my teams, both groups have wonderful people in them, and I love helping the organization succeed. Outside of work I am trying to learn German through auditing classes at CofC, duolingo, and trying to take part in German media (check out the shows Dark and Babylon Berlin on Netflix!).

I believe that is a very quick overview of my CofC work experience and me as a person. I believe this adventure into the business world will be a great one!
