November 12 – “’The Issue with Females’: Abortion, Infanticide, and Ethics in Southern Slavery” –  6:00pm in Addlestone 227

– Exciting lecture coming up in two weeks! Dr. Alexis Wells-Oghoghomeh will deliver African American Studies’ first Conseula Francis Emerging Scholar lecture for the year on Tuesday, November 12 at 6PM in Addlestone 227. Her talk is entitled “‘The Issue of Females’: Abortion, Infanticide, and Ethics in Southern Slavery” and is drawn from her forthcoming book, tentatively titled The Souls of Womenfolk.

As you can imagine, this talk sits at the intersection of African American studies, religious studies, and women’s and gender studies, so I think lots of faculty, students, staff, and community members will find it compelling! Dr. Wells-Oghoghomeh is an assistant professor of religious studies at Vanderbilt University and her work is sure to shake up the world!
