Volunteer at the Warehouse, Kitchen, or both at the Lowcountry Food Bank, whose mission is “to feed the poor and hungry of the ten coastal counties of South Carolina by soliciting and distributing healthy food and grocery products to nonprofit agencies serving the poor, and to educate the public about the problems of and solutions to domestic hunger.”

Come to the Oxfam Hunger Banquet hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement and the Jewish Student Union and learn more about international hunger and poverty issues.

Join CAB for Open Mic Night at Yo Burrito! Performances will feature Hunger and Homelessness themes. There will be free food, and a prize will be given to the best performance!
Come watch a short documentary regarding a local food desert on America Street. This “People’s Short” is a documentary project about the access, or lack thereof, to fresh, locally produced food, and what that means to the community.

Blankets will be collected by the Lowcountry Furniture Bank at six locations: Berry Hall lobby, Liberty St. Dorm lobby, McAlister Dorm lobby, Buist-Rutledge Dorm lobby, Simmons Art Center/ CATO Center (where the two buildings meet), and Stern Center under the site map in the Lobby.
Also, you can donate your dining dollars to Aramark, and the money will used to buy bulk food items for a local organization!
Faces of Homelessness Panel: Hear the real-life experiences of people who are currently or were previously homeless in Charleston.
Environmental Justice, Housing, and Art: Catch a shuttle ride to the City Gallery to see Pedro Lobo’s Favelas: architecture of survival and learn about the how housing is an environmental justice issue. This exhibition is a component of bluesphere: Earth Art Expo and shuttles are provided in partnership with Alliance for Planet Earth.
CanCastle Competition: Can you build a castle-like structure out of 75% cans and other nonperishable items that could house at least one person lying down? Come out and show off your architecture skills while contributing to a great cause!

Promenade Takeover:This hunger and homelessness awareness fair featured a “Night in the Life” Cardboard box simulation, trivia, an awareness sheet and several awareness tables from local nonprofits.
Pursuit of Happyness: Students were able to take a study break to watch Pursuit of Happyness which touches on issues of hunger and homelessness.
Service Saturday: Take Action: Students spent their Saturday morning packing Thanksgiving meals at Lowcountry Food Bank to help families in need.
