“The Goddesses”…Not Winning

With the craze of Charlie Sheen I recently typed his name into google only to find crazy articles and video clips of his ridiculous life. But the most interesting part in my opinion is his two girlfriends that are strangely enough named the “goddesses”. These women are an extreme insult to women everywhere. One is a porn star and the other is a former model that gawk at Charlie like he is their master. Charlie is quoted saying that these two girls finish his wedge that help him navigate through life. Yes, he tends to give them credit for helping him through his struggles. But the message that these girls are sending is not a good one. At night when Charlie decides it is time to “sleep” he goes into the girl’s room that he wants to sleep with that night, basically choosing the girl he is in the ‘mood for’. Feminists everywhere should be appalled and shocked for Charlie Sheen’s demanding and ridiculous requests of these women. But what is even more absurd is that these women rightfully submit to his demands. They claim to be in love with him and that they talk for hours, they also claim (the goddesses) to be in love with each other. This only adds to the stereotype that women should submit to men, that their lives should revolve around the demands and wishes of a celebrity like Charlie Sheen and that it is okay. When it completely is not.
These girls are making it seem like they are living a great and fabulous life and Charlie Sheen is telling men that they can act crazy and ridiculous yet have it all by having two blonde girlfriends. We as a people need to be empowering women not diminishing them to nothing.
This idea of the goddesses is anti-feminist, it allows the gender of women to not be a huge organizing power in our society today. Many feminists argue that the media plays a huge part in whether women are recognized as being a crucial part of gender ideology. Gender is a very big part of what media defines as being powerful and the goddesses are definitely losing not winning at accomplishing this task.
