The College of Charleston 2009-2010 Selection for THE COLLEGE READS! is The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, a collection of interconnected stories centering on the intimate experience of war through the points of view of soldiers in Vietnam.
The title story – named one of the best 100 stories of the 20th Century – investigates the decisions soldiers make regarding what they carry with them into battle.
An examination of what we as human beings – faculty and students alike –each carry with us throughout our lives will serve as the theme for the Convocation ceremony in August and through the programs that will go on during the 2009-2010 school year.
